I am an evangelical. This is not a story of how I lost my faith in God, but rather a chronicle of how modern-day institutional Christianity broke my heart.

What happens when looking for biblical truth costs you everything? Michael Stansfield was a deeply integrated, lifelong evangelical who immersed himself in holy Scripture from infancy. But a profound, unexpected spiritual encounter in 2007 shattered his worldview and set him on an agonizing path of discovery.

The Christianity that Broke my Heart is a gripping, raw chronicle of structural betrayal. When Michael attempted to rationally debate his scriptural findings with his peers, the very institution that raised him slammed its doors. From silent corridors to the pulpit, his personal relationships were systematically sabotaged. Church after church forcefully excommunicated him simply for quoting literal passages from the physical Bible.

Driven to find answers, his quest took him through the halls of a divinity seminary, into political campaigns for public office, and eventually across the world to Saudi Arabia. Along the way, he faced patronizing gatekeepers, institutional censorship, and total social ostracization.

This breathtaking memoir pulls back the curtain on modern institutional religion. It exposes how an earthly system can become a tool for psychological intimidation and absolute control. Ultimately, it is a testament to the unyielding power of unconditional love, challenging readers to fear the Lord over the dogmas of mere men.
