In India, the spatial pattern of population distribution is very irregular. Since some areas are sparsely populated, others are.

These states can be classified into three categories:-

High population :- States Uttar Pradesh (highest population), Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. Together 76 of the population lives in these states.

Medium population :- States Assam, Haryana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Punjab, Goa.

Less populated states and tribal areas :- Such as Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, all North-Eastern states (except Assam) and Union Territory except Delhi.

Factors affecting population distribution:-

Geographical factors :-

Availability of water

Landform

Climate

Soil

Economic factors :-

Mineral

Urbanization

Industrialization

Social and cultural factors :-

Religious significance

Disturbance

Bad social environment

Political reasons :-

Unstable political situation

Bad legal system

Physical factors affecting population distribution density in India:-

Height :- Plains are more suitable for population settlement. Population is less concentrated in mountainous and plateau or dense rainfall areas. For example, the northern plains in India are densely populated, whereas the population density is low in the north-mountainous parts and north-eastern rainfall areas.

Climate :- Climate affects population distribution. The hot climate of the Thar Desert and the cold areas of the plateau and the Himalayas are less densely populated than the even-climate areas.

Soil :- Soil affects agriculture. Due to good agriculture in areas with fertile soil, these areas are more densely populated. Example Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab etc.

Availability of water :- Availability of water attracts settlement. They are more densely populated like: Sutlej Ganga plain, coastal plain etc.

Population Density :- The number of people living per unit area is called population density.

Population density in India :-

Population density in India according to the 2011 census 382 people per square kilometer Is .

There are many disparities in population density at the state level. There are 17 people per square kilometer in Arunachal Pradesh. Whereas in Bihar this density is 1106 persons per square kilometer.

Among Union Territories, Delhi has the highest density of 11320 persons per square kilometer whereas Andaman Nicobar Islands has only 46 persons per square kilometer.
...1230008108241_Mrs. Nalini Pandeylibro_electonico_1230008108241_1230008108241Mr. SandeepInglésMéxico2024-07-14T00:00:00+00:00https://getbook.kobo.com/koboid-prod-public/ee1c227f-0899-4864-9560-34f3a8095ae8-epub-87883b86-86fb-4710-9e23-0458f9f3729b.epub2024-07-14T00:00:00+00:00Mrs. Nalini Pandey
