Cold Case Ledger: Valerie Freeman's Murder Mysteries

In Kitsap County, the truth doesn't disappear. It just gets misfiled.

For forty years, Valerie Freeman was the invisible pulse of the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office. As the senior records clerk, she didn't carry a badge or a gun, but she possessed something far more dangerous: the institutional memory of every crime, every cover-up, and every 'accidental' death that ever crossed the peninsula.

When the legendary Sheriff Walt Erickson dies, he leaves Valerie one final, unauthorized task—a glowing black thumb drive containing forty-three names. These are the cold cases the system wanted archived into obsolescence. The tragedies the department called 'accidents.' The secrets the powerful families of the Pacific Northwest thought were buried forever.

Retired but not finished.

Now, from her quiet rancher in Seabeck, Valerie is no longer just keeping the record. She's correcting it.

Armed with a lifetime of observation and a custom, slightly glitchy AI partner named Loki, Valerie begins a journey through the fog-slicked docks of Kingston, the hidden rooms of Bainbridge Island, and the timber-shadowed trails of South Kitsap.

An investigation like no other.

Valerie isn't a hard-boiled detective; she is a woman of intellect, unhurried precision, and deep roots. Alongside her is Harald Lindquist, a retired sheriff who has spent decades carrying his own silent failures, and Fenrir, a regally insurgent gray cat who manages the house while Valerie manages the data.

From the 1981 disappearance of a commercial diver to the 1994 drowning of a woman who was 'dressed for the car,' Valerie and Loki peel back the layers of Kitsap's foundational sins. They are hunting the 'ghosts in the machine'—the discrepancies that only a human clerk could notice and only an AI could prove.

The record was never honest. Until now.

Cold Case Ledger is a moody, atmospheric 'Digital Noir' mystery that blends the high-tech precision of modern forensics with the quiet, soulful persistence of a woman who refuses to let the forgotten stay that way.
