ANGELINA

For four years I've lived behind a convent wall. At Easter I take my vows and disappear for good.

Then my father, the Sicilian Don, comes to the grille with a basket of oranges and tells me he's sold me to a man in Palermo who has buried two wives.

And the boy my family maimed for loving me climbs over the wall to take me out.

Dante Castelli isn't a good man. He's the one his family sends when somebody needs to stop breathing. Six years ago my father's men took a piece of him for touching me, and I believed every lie they told me about why he never came back.

Now he wants a wife. In a church. Fast.

He says it's the only thing that will keep me from Palermo. He says it's a deal.

He's hiding something. I just can't stop wanting him long enough to find out what.

DANTE

My father dropped dead at Sunday lunch. Poisoned at his own table.

His will leaves my brothers and me everything, on one condition. We marry in the Church within the year, or we lose it all.

I swore I'd never marry anyone.

Then a letter came from behind a convent wall, in a hand I hadn't seen in six years. A warning. From the only girl I ever loved, whose father wants my whole family in the ground.

He's shipping her to Palermo after Easter.

So I'm taking her first.

I'll marry her. I'll keep her alive. I'll keep my mouth shut about why.

And if her father wants her back, he can come through me.
