FREYA

My father vanished and left me his debt.

The family he owed doesn't want money. They want blood. On the night of the first snow, one of us had to run through their wilderness until dawn, with their Hunter somewhere behind us in the dark.

So I locked my little brother in a room, and I ran instead.

I nearly made it. I had a blade at the Hunter's throat and freedom close enough to touch.

And I couldn't do it.

Now I belong to him. That's their law. What the Hunter catches, the Hunter keeps.

He's silent. He's cold. He's the most beautiful man I've ever seen, and he has never lost a hunt in his life.

I should be planning my escape. Instead I'm learning the sound of his breathing in the dark.

I came here to survive him. I never planned on wanting him.

LAZAR

Fourteen times I've hunted someone through the snow. Fourteen times I caught them and laid them at my father's feet.

Then she ran.

She broke my trail. She held her knife to my throat and let me live, and I need to know why.

So I kept her.

My father thinks she's bait. My brother thinks she's a prize. She thinks I'm a monster, and she isn't wrong.

But no one takes what I keep.

Not my father. Not my blood. Not the law that made me what I am.

She's mine now, in my house, in my bed, in every breath I take. And I will tear the whole north apart before I let anyone put her back in the snow.

Even if keeping her is the thing that destroys us both.

This is the first book in The Feral North Series. Reading order:
