Clara Bennet frames the alpha and the pack—and catches something she was never meant to see. Down on a closed Forest Service road, Sheriff Malcolm Quinn hands a sealed county envelope to a leaner man who scans the tree line like he already knows someone is watching. She presses the shutter. His head snaps up. The first shot cracks through the branches; the second finds only snow as she yanks the memory card and drops into the drifts.

The whiteout swallows the valley. What finds her instead is Wes Cole: National Park Service patch, scarred winter boots, a grip like iron, and questions that do not shake. She presses the card into his palm and tells him not to let anyone take it. He pockets it. The radio gives back nothing but static. Somewhere below them, a snowmobile is already hunting uphill.

They run for a one-room cache buried past the tree line—woodstove, wool blankets, a photograph Wes turns face-down the second the lantern flares. Outside, Lars Kincaid circles the cabin. Inside, wet clothes come off, firelight finds old scars, and the silence between them turns dangerous. Wes knows the man with the rifle. Kincaid has wanted him dead since a woman fell eight hundred feet on Mount Torrence, and Quinn’s envelope has just given him a paying reason to finish it.

Ridge spine. Rifle flash. A crevice barely wide enough for two bodies. Granite at her back, his mouth on hers, a kiss that tastes like cold and blood and three years of not letting anyone close. Then the mountain moves. Rock seals the entrance. Blood soaks his shirt. She drags him anyway.

Flight into the Wilderness is high-country romantic suspense with gunfire in the whiteout, skin against skin in the only shelter left, and a chase that does not stop when the storm does. The card can bury a sheriff. The man holding her can get them both killed. Letting go is no longer an option.
