Ariana Platt can take care of herself. She's independent and a loner and she's had to be self-sufficient ever since her mom went into rehab and her stepfather went to prison for insider trading. Now she's just barely making it and she doesn't need the help of some good looking, rich cowboy who wants to take care of her. She wants a friend. Doesn't she?

Connor James grew up an orphan and found a way to make himself rich enough to never worry about money. Or people. If he never gets close to anybody, then he never has to ask whether they like him or his money. But having Ariana Platt as a neighbor means having a friend he didn't expect, a friend who gets drunk too often and needs more help than she'll admit and who he very much considers to be just a friend. Doesn't he?

But when Ariana's world is rocked by one trauma after another, it's Connor she turns to and Connor who's there to help pick up the pieces. Now they're both questioning what it is they want – and whether they can trust each other enough to get it.
