CRASH, BANG, BOOM goes the house in the evening.
nAnd somewhere, very small: tink.

Papa's not home yet, and everyone wants to hear him come in. So, one room at a time, a big, loving family hushes their noisy house.

Mama stills the clanging pots in the kitchen. Brother tiptoes his stomping boots down the hall. Sister muffles her tooting horn in the playroom. The barking dog settles into his basket, and the splashing bath ends in a warm, snuggly towel. Room by room, each loud noise gets smaller and softer, until... Hush . . . tink.

But the pipes in the wall will NOT hush. And who is that bouncing on the bed upstairs?

Then squeak goes the gate, click goes the key, and there are quiet footsteps on the stairs. Papa is home. And in the stillness, the little one hears one more sound, the smallest and steadiest of all: a heartbeat.

Hush Goes the House is a cozy bedtime picture book made for reading aloud:

Loud, soft, silent: spread after spread, a big noise is shouted, then murmured, then whispered, a rhythm that gently winds children down toward sleep.
Sounds to say together: CLANG, STOMP, TOOT, WOOF, SPLASH and BOING invite little listeners to join in, then whisper along.
Things to spot: a tiny green frog, an empty coat hook waiting for Papa, and a little 'tink' hiding on the pipes.
A comforting ending: a calm, reassuring close about family, waiting, and the quiet heartbeat that keeps going all night long.

With warm, glowing illustrations of a big family in a tall, cozy house, this is a soothing read for bedtime, quiet time, and any evening when someone is on their way home.

For ages 2 to 6.
