'I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.'

These words of the apostle Paul from Galatians 2:20 stand at the center of Elias Aslaksen's book. For him, they describe not only the believer's position before God, but a reality intended to shape everyday life.

Aslaksen introduces the book as follows: 'It is one thing that Christ was crucified, but it is quite another thing that we are crucified, just as it is one thing that He did God's will, but quite another thing that we should do it. His purpose in being crucified for us was not so that we could avoid being crucified, but rather that we should be crucified with Him.'

What does it mean for the self to be crucified with Christ? Aslaksen connects this question with the old self, self-denial, temptation, and the struggle against sin. The cross of Christ is therefore not considered only as the historical event at Calvary. It also has a practical meaning for the disciple who seeks to follow Jesus.

The second part of Paul's statement is equally important: 'Christ lives in me.' The goal is therefore not simply renunciation or self-denial, but another life—a life in which the mind and life of Christ increasingly become visible.

'I Am Crucified with Christ' is thus a focused exploration of Galatians 2:20, the cross of Christ, the old self, self-denial, and new life in Christ.

It is written for readers who want to understand how Paul's words about being crucified with Christ relate to the practical path of Christian discipleship.
