What happens when the pain you carried in silence for years finally finds a voice?

In It Mattered to Me, Deborah Clark tells the deeply personal story of a life shaped by longing, loss, love, abuse, rejection, and the enduring need to belong. From a childhood spent trying to understand where she fit, through relationships that left lasting wounds, an abusive marriage, motherhood, family conflict, loneliness, and some of her darkest emotional seasons, Deborah recounts the experiences that changed how she saw herself and the world around her.

But this is not only a story about what happened to her. It is a story about what remained.

Through faith, reflection, and the love of her children and grandchildren, Deborah gradually began to understand that the pain of the past did not have to determine the rest of her life. In telling her story, she reclaims the voice she kept quiet for far too long.

It Mattered to Me is a candid memoir for survivors, young people, and anyone who has ever felt overlooked, unwanted, misunderstood, or unsure of their own worth. It is a reminder that your experiences matter, your voice matters, and your story does not have to end where the hurt began.
