This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice.

Not every voice that knows your name is a friend.

The first thing Milo ever had was ears.

He was made in a glowing tank beneath the glass of New Haven, on the moon Phobo: a husky's heart, a bat's ears that hear a heartbeat through a wall, a nose that feels warmth in the dark, and a whale's long years, so a dog could stay beside one person for a lifetime.

At six days old, he chose a newborn boy named Adolin. At four, he promised the boy's mother he would keep a light on.

But Dr. Anselm Krell wants the secret woven into Milo's bones. He has already taken Milo's brothers and sisters to find it. Now he is coming for the last of the Ninth Weave, with a voice Milo would follow anywhere.

On a moon where the air can leave in a single breath, Milo trusts one thing. A heartbeat.

Some things a dog keeps.

The story before Red Moon, told by the one who was always listening.
