Almost everyone is waiting. For more money, more certainty, more time, or somebody's permission. Then a crisis arrives, a diagnosis or a death or a marriage ending, and does twenty years of thinking in a single terrified month.

The Midlife Method argues you can run that reckoning yourself, deliberately, on an ordinary Tuesday, before something forces it on you.

The argument is not carried by the author. It is carried by people who left a record. Charles Darwin, who sat on the biggest idea of his century for twenty years and then opened a parcel containing his own theory, written better, by somebody else. Harry Bernstein, who published his first book at ninety-six. Julia Child, who could not cook at thirty-seven. Steve Martin, who walked away at the top. Every quotation is sourced.

Michael Cameron Sidawi turns up in it as the ordinary person applying all of this to one ordinary life, and it does not always go well. He bought a townhouse at a foreclosure auction with every dollar he had. He built a beachfront quadraplex in a country he did not live in. He ran for mayor of his city with no political experience at all and took about thirty percent of the vote in twelve weeks. He tells you what each one cost.

Twenty-four chapters, written short, for people who are doing fine and quietly postponing their lives. It ends inside a company he has held for five years that has not worked yet, and he does not resolve it.
