Bree Campbell always wanted to be a cop. Not the small town police chief she is today, but a big city detective.

The problem is, when she left the academy, the people of Forest Falls assumed she was coming home, and she didn't have the heart to disappoint them. She upholds the law in her tiny hometown, until she finds herself on the other side of the fence.

After a couple of dates, Bree admits the guy she met in a club isn't the one for her, unfortunately, he disagrees and refuses to walk away. With the law firmly on his side no matter how far he strays from the line, Bree needs help, from someone who doesn't wear a uniform, someone she once loved, someone who broke her heart.

Arlo Harper is a criminal. Granted he hasn't broken a single law since he got out of prison, and is trying to stay on the straight and narrow, but he carries that burden around every day.

When the woman who helped him get his life back on track calls on him, he can't say no. He owes her a debt, but she's asking too much. She's asking him him to put himself in that place again, be that person he used to be and to be close to the woman he once thought he'd have forever with.

Mrs. C would only ever ask him for that kind of help if she was desperate, and when it comes to her granddaughter's safety, she is. He'll go to Forest Falls, he'll keep Bree safe, and the hardest part of it all will be walking away.
