This Hindu-Buddhist empire was the biggest; richest; most powerful; and most hegemonic that Indonesia has ever been. Blending together the cults of the Buddha and Shiva, the legendary king Raden Wijaya had the bravery to dismiss Mongol calls for submission - and obliterate the huge fleets sent by Kublai Khan as a result. Not only by means of naval warfare, but even guerilla warfare in the Javanese jungles - before it was even invented, was he able to defeat the Mongols under the guise of the Chinese Yuan dynasty. With the defeat of Kublai Khan, the Majapahit dynasty was born - and the golden age of Indonesian history became a reality.
