Never Marry a Highlander at Midwinter

She needs a husband to save her family. He needs to let her go. Neither planned on falling in love.

Lady Honora Bellenden has always trusted three things: good sense, a well-kept account book, and a carefully made plan. Unfortunately, none of them can save her when a December snowstorm leaves her stranded in the Scottish Highlands in her wedding slippers.

Her rescuer is Keir Dalziel, a dark-eyed, sharp-tongued Highland laird with a crumbling castle, a notorious reputation, and a very large dog named Bonaparte. He is also the sworn enemy of the man Honora is supposed to marry.

With her family's future hanging on a wealthy betrothed—and a scandal threatening to destroy everything—Honora needs a way out. Keir offers an outrageous solution: a handfasting marriage to protect her reputation until the roads clear. Then he will set her free to marry another man.

It is a sensible arrangement. Entirely temporary. And governed by rules.

No kissing. No unnecessary touching. No mistaking a marriage of convenience for anything more.

But between dwindling firewood, one enormous bed, a treacherous dog, and a laird who seems determined to make her laugh, Honora discovers that Keir's rough manners conceal a wounded heart—and that the man she should never love may be the first person who truly respects her mind, her courage, and her right to choose her own future.

Yet Keir has secrets of his own, and the powerful man waiting for Honora at the end of the thaw will not surrender his prize quietly.

As old betrayals come to light and the snow begins to melt, Honora must decide whether to return to the safe future she planned—or risk everything for a love that asks her to be nothing less than herself.

Her mother always warned her:

Never marry a Highlander in winter. Wed at midwinter, rue it by spring.

But what if the greatest mistake of Honora's life turns out to be the one thing she cannot bear to lose?

A sparkling, snowbound Highland historical romance filled with witty banter, forced proximity, a marriage of convenience, a fiercely independent heroine, a gruff laird with a heart of gold, and a four-legged accomplice who refuses to respect personal boundaries.
