They tell me, We arent gonna arrest the guy who attacked you. Its a matter of hes beat up too bad. In fact, youre damn lucky we dont arrest you.<br />I ask the police, If a guy robs a bank and then gets badly beat up, you dont arrest him, right?<br />The police make even less sense than my mom and that aint possible.<br />Okay, the next day I go to work down at the transmission place. I do damn good work and ol Arky pays me the same as the rest of the guys. I figure that its a fair deal, I do the same work for the same money. Well, actually, I do better work for the same money. I read the manuals and I can see possible problems, downstream from what I fix. I check the downstream and find things that show wear and probably failure in the not too distant future. Since I already have the transmission opened up, I can make a few parts replacements and a few adjustments at low cost, but elimination of not too future problems. My work has fewer comebacks than the other guys. Arky makes a bit more money and I build my reputation as a top transmission repair guy. I even make a suggestion to the manufacturer about a needed design change. Not too bad for a high school dropout.<br />I think that I have escaped from the high school prison, but they still have the bloodhounds on my trail. The high school people can no longer yell at me directly, but they enlist the help of others.<br />The trouble starts. My Mom tells me, You gotta go to school and learn things.<br />I lecture my Mom, I cant go to school, they wont let me go to school, in fact they expelled me from their school. Im studying for the GED and learning things, on my own at night.<br />Okay, my Mom gets really hyper and throws me out of the house. She tells me, If you want to live in a dream world, then you can go off somewhere else and live out your nightmare by yourself.<br />If Im living in a dream world, I can pay my dream world rent with my earnings from the transmission place. However, with no choice in the matter, I get my own place. It works out pretty much okay, except that my place gets really messy. When I was living at home I never understood how much work my Mom did to keep things in order. So, I hire a maid; a Mexican girl who comes in twice a week, cleans and organizes my place. I also hire a laundry place to clean my clothes. I find out how much the electric, gas, water and sewer bills cost. Since I earn more than the average adult, I can pay my bills. I get a slow cooker and I eat much better that the school cafeteria and even a little bit better than what my Mom fixed. I get my food from the weekend farmers market, better food and better prices than the supermarket. I take my lunch into work and I eat better than what the other guys get off the roach coach. Not too bad for a high school dropout.<br />Okay, I work all day at the transmission place. I come home after work, eat supper and then load up my slow cooker for the next day. I then study for the GED. (To pass the GED, I have to pass objective tests. Back in high school, I tried and failed to pass subjective tests.) Thats weekdays. Then come the weekends.<br />Weekends, I hit the farmers market early, then drop off and pick up my laundry and such. I then mostly go over to the community college and take useful classes. (No, working on modern automobiles isnt for the dumb. We use diagnostic machines and theyre complicated to operate correctly (no, high school poetry doesnt help me.) I also do some custom mechanical, electrical and computer work on hot rods and I have to use diagnostic machines and quite a bit of math to set up the high performance machines.)</p>9781005538378_R.
