However, the incidents depicted in this book actually took place between 1652 and 1654. The title of the book, Orimha the Rock was derived from Orimha, the Iroquois word for rock pierre in French; Rock because the 17-y-o hero had to remain as stoic as a rock in order to survive toils and ordeals of the most grievous nature. Orimha the Rock was drawn from life, largely inspired by the 17th Century notes of Pierre Esprit Radisson, who was abducted by a band of Mohawks of the Iroquois Nation, suffered but survived a three-day torture ritual and went on to become a great French-Canadian explorer, Coureur de Bois, with a brilliant and lucrative career in fur trading and organized expeditions. French-Canadian on my mothers side, Scotch-Irish-Ojibwe on my fathers side, I grew up on the edge of a Canadian boreal forest; so when I read these stories as a teenager, I felt at home. I became the Frenchman and the native wild man of the wilderness, where the caribou and the fierce wolf abound, and where, if careless enough to laugh at nature, you may find yourself lost just a few hundred feet from home. For reasons that will become self-evident while you read the text, the lexicon of some dialogues was reproduced verbatim from period documents, now in public domain. Orimha the Rock is a classic story of survival with unadulterated descriptive scenes of teenagers falling in love, wild men hunting in boreal forests, Iroquois wars, and torture told honestly without preconceived notion or bias.
...1469702Orimha the Rock6161https://www.gandhi.com.mx/orimha-the-rock/phttps://gandhi.vtexassets.com/arquivos/ids/1310067/e2dfae80-77eb-4534-a143-50cd1f8ed594.jpg?v=638337840227970000InStockMXN99999DIEbook20221230005860074_W3siaWQiOiI4N2MzMTg4My02N2UyLTQ1MTUtYjA1NS0xM2I1ODI4NDNhZDQiLCJsaXN0UHJpY2UiOjYwLCJkaXNjb3VudCI6MCwic2VsbGluZ1ByaWNlIjo2MCwiaW5jbHVkZXNUYXgiOnRydWUsInByaWNlVHlwZSI6IklwcCIsImN1cnJlbmN5IjoiTVhOIiwiZnJvbSI6IjIwMjUtMDMtMDNUMDU6MDA6MDBaIiwidG8iOiIyMDI1LTAzLTMxVDIzOjU5OjU5WiIsInJlZ2lvbiI6Ik1YIiwiaXNQcmVvcmRlciI6ZmFsc2V9LHsiaWQiOiJlM2FiYzMxMy1hYzMyLTRlMDMtODg4Yi0wMDY5YTgwYmYxZWYiLCJsaXN0UHJpY2UiOjYxLCJkaXNjb3VudCI6MCwic2VsbGluZ1ByaWNlIjo2MSwiaW5jbHVkZXNUYXgiOnRydWUsInByaWNlVHlwZSI6IklwcCIsImN1cnJlbmN5IjoiTVhOIiwiZnJvbSI6IjIwMjUtMDQtMDFUMDA6MDA6MDBaIiwicmVnaW9uIjoiTVgiLCJpc1ByZW9yZGVyIjpmYWxzZX1d1230005860074_
Orimha the Rock is a work of fiction intended mainly for its entertainment value, and no historical inference must be derived from the text.
