Novella. He gave me ten minutes to impress him. His daughter needed only one word.

Wes Brandvold is the most feared defenseman in Milwaukee, and he runs his house like his penalty kill: no mistakes, no strangers, no nonsense. His six-year-old daughter Tilly hasn't spoken to anyone outside the family since her mother walked out. So when a broke ex-figure skater shows up for the nanny job in a thrift-store coat, Wes starts his phone timer and waits for her to fail.

Then Tilly drags Nora Quill out to the frozen backyard pond, laces up her pink skates, and says her first word to a stranger in three years.

Nora needs this job. She needs the paycheck for her mother's care, and she needs the $8,000 advance from the family consultant who placed her, the one who only asks for short weekly notes about the household. Harmless, he says. Standard.

But the grumpy captain is nothing like the man those questions describe. He braids hair with taped-up hands and floods the pond at 5 a.m. And the way he looks at her across the dark kitchen is very much against the rules.

When his ex-wife returns and files for full custody, Wes asks Nora to stand beside him. Nora has to tell him the truth before someone else does.

She's too late.

This steamy, slow-burn single dad hockey romance is Book 1 of the Lantern Point Harbormasters trilogy. It ends on a cliffhanger, and the story continues in Book 2.
