When a football trial goes wrong, Arvin retreats to his Dadi's room, where she answers his pain with a lullaby and a mountain story, told in Hindi, about a boy who must learn the colors of a legendary flower.

Some mountains can't be climbed in a hurry.

Arvin knows exactly what failing at football looks like: the whistle, the long walk off the pitch, the other boys' parents looking politely away. What he doesn't know is where to put the feeling afterwards.

So he does what he has always done when the world gets too loud. He slips behind the old cotton curtain into Dadi's room, a quiet world of sandalwood, brass bells and golden lamplight, and lays his head in her lap.

Dadi doesn't give advice. She hums a lullaby from her village and tells a story instead. It is about Rudra, a fierce, impatient boy who is sure that reaching the top of the Mountain of Flowers is all that matters, and about the legendary flower at the summit that glows in every colour there is. Each time Rudra climbs, the mountain turns him back. Each time, a new field of flowers teaches him something he didn't know he was missing.

Night after night, Arvin listens. Between the daffodils and the lotus ponds, his own mountain starts to look different.

Saare Rang Tere Hi Hain is a story within a story for readers 9 and up: a modern family tale set in an Indian household, wrapped around an old mountain legend. It is about brothers who love each other and still misunderstand each other, about grandmothers and the stories they carry, and about learning that growth is slow and that the journey is where the colors come from.

A note on language: The family story is told in English. Dadi's mountain story is told in Hindi, so it is best for readers who enjoy both languages, or for families enjoying together.
