The Fiction Continuity Ledger
nA Practical System for Tracking Characters, Timelines, Worldbuilding, Plot Logic, and Series Consistency

You remember the scene. Your heroine was left-handed in Chapter 3, her brother was twelve when the bridge collapsed, the north gate locked at sunset, and the villain could not possibly know the secret until somebody told him.

Then Chapter 17 arrives with a crowbar.

The heroine grabs a blade with her right hand. The brother's age no longer fits the timeline. Somebody strolls through the locked north gate at midnight. The villain delivers a speech built around information he has never learned.

None of these mistakes is dramatic by itself. Together, they make a reader stop trusting the world.

The Fiction Continuity Ledger gives fiction writers a practical way to catch those breaks before publication without turning the creative process into clerical work. Instead of asking you to remember everything, the book shows you how to build a light, searchable continuity system around the facts that actually carry story weight.

This is a hands-on guide to story continuity, worldbuilding consistency, character consistency, plot causality, and timeline tracking for novels. It is written for novelists, series writers, screenwriters, game writers, and anyone whose fictional world has grown larger than one human memory can comfortably hold.
nStop treating every contradiction like the same problem

A continuity slip is not always a factual error.

Sometimes a character believes something false. Sometimes the reader is supposed to infer the wrong answer. Sometimes a rule has a deliberate exception. Sometimes the author really did move the mountain by accident.

The book teaches you to separate four different layers: established fact, character belief, reader inference, and deliberate exception. That distinction matters because mystery, suspense, unreliable narration, character growth, and plot twists all depend on information changing shape without the author accidentally “fixing” the very ambiguity the story needs.

You will learn how to diagnose a mismatch before rewriting it. Is the problem a record error, a motivation gap, a sequence failure, a broken world rule, or a planned difference in perspective? Once the category is clear, the repair usually gets smaller.

That is the heart of plot hole prevention: diagnose first, edit second.
nBuild a story bible that answers questions instead of collecting trivia

A bloated reference file can become a second book that nobody wants to write and nobody can search.

The method here takes a different approach. Your story bible for writers is built around questions the manuscript will actually ask. Where can this character travel? What can this magic system do? Who knows about the murder at this point in the chronology? Which cultural rule makes this conversation dangerous? What later scenes depend on the scar, the ferry schedule, the inheritance law, or the missing key?

The result is a working reference, not a museum of eye colors and favorite breakfasts.

You will see how to connect character profiles, maps, timelines, institutions, magic or technology rules, terminology, and history so they function as one system. When a fact changes, you can see what else needs attention.
nTrack characters without freezing them in place

Consistency does not mean your characters must behave like wind-up toys.

People change. They lie. They regress. They make exceptions. They become braver, meaner, softer, more reckless, or simply tired enough to do something they would normally avoid.

The character chapters show how to preserve character consistency while still allowing believable development.
