The House I Carried is a deeply personal memoir about childhood wounds, marriage, fatherhood, faith, control, regret, and the difficult work of accountability.

Faraz Khan grew up in a home shaped by fear, harsh discipline, family expectations, and the belief that being a good son meant obedience at almost any cost. As a child, he learned to hide emotion, endure pain, and survive by becoming watchful, self-reliant, and hard.

When he fell in love, he believed marriage would allow him to build a different kind of home.

Instead, the unresolved patterns of his childhood followed him into adulthood.

Over time, protection became control. Provision became absence. Financial ambition became obsession. Silence became emotional distance. The man who once feared becoming like his father slowly began carrying some of the same patterns into the family he had fought so hard to create.

This memoir does not ask childhood to become an excuse.

It asks a harder question:

What happens when the child who was hurt finally recognizes the people he has hurt?

Through the breakdown of family relationships, conflict with parents, marriage struggles, fatherhood, faith, money, ego, anger, and eventual self-recognition, Faraz confronts the gap between intention and impact.

The result is not a story of easy redemption or a guaranteed happy ending. It is a story of responsibility.

The House I Carried is ultimately about the work that begins after explanation: learning to listen without defending, love without controlling, guide without humiliating, apologize without demanding forgiveness, and become safer even when no one promises that change will restore what was lost.

Written in the hope that another husband or father may recognize himself before it is too late, this is a memoir about breaking inherited patterns before they become someone else’s wounds.
