I WAS SUPPOSED TO EMBALM A DEAD MAN. INSTEAD, I STOLE HIS SECRET, CRASHED A MAFIA KINGDOM, AND ENDED UP MARRYING THE MAN WHO COULD HAVE ME KILLED.

My name is Róisín Keane. I work with dead bodies, run my family's funeral home, and have three simple rules: don't trust the living, don't get attached to the dead, and never get involved with the Irish mafia.

I managed two out of three.

It started with a corpse on my embalming table.

Danny Walsh, accountant to Boston's most ruthless Irish crime family, arrived with a suspicious set of instructions from my missing father. Then three armed men stormed my funeral home, demanding something hidden inside his body.

So I did what any sensible woman would do.

I stole a silver rosary, shoved a dead accountant into my hearse, and drove straight into Kavanagh territory.

Because apparently, when your family is in danger, the best place to hide is with the people everyone else is terrified of.

Enter Ronan Kavanagh.

Cold. Arrogant. Ruthless enough to make grown men reconsider their life choices. He's the head of the Irish mafia, and he has absolutely no patience for a smart-mouthed woman arriving at his gates with a corpse in the back of her hearse and a secret powerful enough to start a war.

Unfortunately for him, I'm not particularly good at following orders.

Now my father has vanished, my funeral home has been attacked, my sister is in danger, and half the criminal underworld wants whatever is hidden inside that rosary.

Then Boston's criminal council makes a decision that turns my life into one spectacular disaster.

I'm to marry Ronan Kavanagh.

An arranged marriage to a man who trusts no one, threatens people before breakfast, and looks at me as if deciding whether to kiss me or bury me.

Possibly both.

But there's a problem with this little arrangement.

Ronan thinks he needs a wife he can control.

I have no intention of becoming one.

And the secrets connecting our families go far deeper than either of us imagined. Someone has been lying about the past. Someone wants the Kavanagh empire destroyed. And the closer I get to my new husband, the more I realize that the most dangerous thing about him isn't his reputation.

It's how much I might actually come to love him.

Because in Boston, loyalty is bought with blood, betrayal is a family tradition, and falling for the wrong man can get you killed.

He wanted a bride who would obey him. He got a funeral director with a sharp tongue, a dangerous secret, and absolutely no respect for his authority.

And if anyone thinks they can use my family to get to me, they'd better have a very good coffin ready.

Welcome to the Kavanagh family.
