The lodge had four floors from the trail. Inside, it had five.

When a white-out forces off-season auditor Mina Sharma into a warm Himalayan lodge that should be closed — and should not exist on her map — she finds her own signature in its guest register. The date is seven years ago: the night before her client died, a night she cannot remember.

Innkeeper Dai welcomes her with hot chiya and three rules. Lock your door after the generator dies at nine. Never open for three knocks, a pause, and one. If someone calls your name from behind you, do not turn around — look in the mirror. And never sign the register for another guest, especially not for Room 7. There is no Room 7 for guests.

With Elena, a German engineer who counts stairs that should not be there; Ramesh Sharma, a photographer whose camera sees another corridor; Bhunte, a dog who always knows which door not to open; and Anjali Tamang, a kitchen girl missing from the official records, Mina Sharma must solve the puzzle hidden in the register, the floor plan and the mirror before the lodge starts signing for the living.

A cozy-dread Himalayan folk horror novel of quiet psychological dread, impossible rooms, mountain folklore and named ghosts. Low gore. High atmosphere. The dog survives.

The Lodge That Wasn't On The Map is Book One of The Thin Places. Each book is a standalone haunted-place mystery, connected by the places the world forgot to finish counting.
