She left the compound with two bags and a signed divorce paper.

She did not look back.

After six years as the old lady of the Iron Oath MC's president, Cassidy Vane is done. Done waiting. Done pressing her hands against a husband who sealed himself shut the day they lost their son and never opened again. Done living inside a life that was his first and hers only by permission.

Collierville, Tennessee is not a plan. It is just north. It is just away.

But away turns into something she did not see coming.

It turns into a small apartment with a south-facing window. A job at a salvage shop where she handles things that have been broken and survived it. A Tuesday appointment she keeps every week without fail. A life that is small and quiet and entirely, completely hers.

And then it turns into Garrett Harlowe.

He is not dramatic. He does not fill rooms or demand attention or love her like a storm. He builds things with his hands. He remembers what she says the first time she says it. He shows up on Thursday mornings with coffee she didn't ask for, exactly the way she takes it, and he listens when she talks and he stays when she needs space and he builds her a bookcase from walnut with dovetail joints because she mentioned once that she had nowhere for her books.

She is not looking for this. She is not ready for this.

She is already halfway in love before the Road King appears at the end of her street.

Rylan Vane does not accept loss.

He is the kind of man who built an empire from nothing and ran it for thirteen years without once questioning whether he was the right man for the job. He is not the kind of man who lets his wife drive north on I-16 at two in the morning and calls it finished.

He rides eight hundred miles to find her.

And when he gets there he does not find the woman he lost.

He finds the woman she has become without him.

Quieter. Steadier. Standing in her own life like she was born for it. And in love, though she has not admitted it yet, with a man who builds furniture and remembers everything and has been paying attention to her since November.

Rylan is not prepared for that.

He is also not prepared for what losing her has done to him. For the grief that has been sitting sealed in his chest for three years finally cracking open. For the name he has never once said out loud. For the man he is becoming in a motel room on Route 9 with a blank wall and a therapist appointment on Thursday at two.

For the first time in his life Rylan Vane does not know how to win.

He only knows he cannot leave.

Seventeen days.

Two men who both love her completely.

Two different kinds of love. Two different versions of herself. One woman who has finally learned what she is worth.

And one choice that will change everything.
