The sky over London has cracked, and the whole city can see what lies beneath it.

Rebels inside the Lantern Council are tearing down the Veil, the ancient barrier that hides the Gloam. Its nine anchor lamps are being put out one by one. Strange lights hang over the rooftops, ordinary people are waking up with sparks in their hands, and a disgraced Warden named Silas Vane has escaped his cell and vanished into the storm.

Clara Ashworth has just come home from New York with a name for what she is, and the Council's first move is to suspect her. Under martial law, with the Gloam shut tight and the Nine divided, she is handed a commission she cannot refuse: protect the lamps that are left. Within days, the Veil will fall for good.

She has no army, so she builds one. A pie-maker who has never thrown a punch. A queen of Shadow Alley who wants a seat at the table. A young Warden, a nurse, a thief with a cold arm, an old archivist, a candle-sprite with opinions, and a Court of vampires crossing the Thames on a hired tourist boat.

Their last stand is the Jewel Tower at Westminster, the oldest lamp in London, held together by a bargain older than the Council and a river that has been patient for a thousand years. And behind the rebellion stands a figure in a brass mask who seems to know exactly who Clara is.

THE ROGUE ALLIANCE is a fast-paced urban fantasy of rebellion, loyalty and found family, set in a London where the magic is no longer hidden. Book Four of The Banned Arbiter Chronicles, best read after The First Spark, Shadow Alley and Bloodline Secrets.
