Phoebe Ingham learned her letters from the railway timetable. For years she has kept the station at Hollinroyd running without a title or a wage. Now the Company has sent a new stationmaster, and he is to have her house.

On the first of December, Matthew Kershaw steps onto her platform and, a minute later, pulls her back from its edge in front of half the town. He will not move into the station house before the New Year. Within a week, he has asked her to marry him.

Phoebe says no.

Then comes a December of fog on the moor, Christmas cards and the Messiah, a train lost in the snow at Moor Top, and a letter that changes what she thought she knew about him.

The Stationmaster's Christmas Proposal is the first book in the Hollinroyd series: a clean Victorian Christmas romance in a northern mill town, with a brass band, a happy ending, and the first chapter of Book Two at the end.
