Frank Baum</strong></p><p>In the novel, Dorothy is a farm girl who lives with Aunt Em and Uncle Henry in the Kansas Plains. Their one-room home had a storm shelter underground and Dorothys bed in the corner. Dorothys best friend and playmate is Toto, her loyal dog.</p><p>When a tornado strikes, Aims Aim shouts for Dorothy to enter the storm shelter. But she was delayed because her beloved Toto was under the bed. The entire house was lifted into the air and was struck by miles of cyclones Padorothy and Toto. Dorothy, shocked and exhausted, fell asleep.</p><p>Dorothy awakens in the colorful munchkin in the land of Oz. A group of three short men walked up to her. They are joined by The Witch of the North, which thanks Dorothy for killing the Wicked Witch of the East, Munchkins evil ruler.</p><p>Dorothy, who did not know her home, took over the Wicked Witch of the East and killed her. The wicked witch of the east stretched out from under the house, wearing silver shoes. The Witch of the North gave Dorothy a pair of boots.</p><p>Dorothy was very confused and did not understand where she was. She couldnt remember killing anyone. And she believes all witches are evil. The Witch of the North is described as having a good witch and an evil witch. The witches of the north and south are good while the east and west are evil. She also mentioned a great wizard named Oz.</p><p>Dorothy asked the Witch of the North and Munchkins how to get home to Kansas. The Witch of the North tells her to follow the yellow brick road to Oz, as the great wizard may know what to do. She kisses Dorothy to provide a safe way to travel to Oz. Before leaving, Dorothy changed into a blue gingham dress and silver sandals.</p><p>On her journey, Dorothy sees a scarecrow in the field, which makes her friendly blink. After the first surprise, she helped the Scarecrow get off the pole and introduced herself and explained where she was going. The Scarecrow asks to join Dorothy on his journey to Oz so that he can ask the wizards brain instead of a straw.</p><p>Dorothy Toto and the Scarecrow continue their journey to Oz together. While drinking and bathing in the woods in the brook, Rusty Tin Woodman appears. Tin Woodman is excited when Dorothy uses oil on his joints and he can finally move again. After hearing that they were going to Oz, the Tin Woodman asked if he could join them for the hearts of the Wizard of Oz.</p><p>Joined by Tin Woodman, the group wandered deep into a scary forest. A huge lion jumps out and is about to attack Toto. Dorothy helps Toto by slapping the lion on the nose and yelling at him not to bite her dog. The Cowardly Lion apologized and explained that in order to hide his cowardice, he roared to frighten everyone. He asked to join the journey to Oz to ask the wizard for courage.</p><p>Dorothy, Toto, and the three friends finally arrive at Oz and are taken to meet the wizard one by one. Dorothy explains to the wizard how she got the silver shoes and a mark on her head and asked for help to get home to Kansas. Oz said he would only yield to their wishes if they slaughtered the Wicked Witch of the West.</p><p>They travel to the land of the Winkies to kill the witch. The wicked witch attacks Dorothy and her friends with wolves and crows they can fight against. The witches use the golden hat to deliver the winged monkey to enslave the lion, dump Tin Woodman on the spiky rock and split the scarecrow. Dorothy is arrested and forced to work in the witchs kitchen. The witch needs Dorothys powerful silver shoes. But I cant figure out how to get it from her. The witch takes Dorothy with an invisible bar, which causes her shoes to slip. In anger, Dorothy threw a bucket of water at the witch, which melted the witch.</p><p>Dorothy reunites with her friends and heads back to Oz to ask the wizard to help meet the end of the bargain. They discover that the great and mighty Oz is just an old man who uses disguise to look like a great wizard. The next morning, Oz gave the Scarecrow a new head full of brains made of dance pins and needles. He gave Tin Woodman a heart stuffed with sawdust. He gave the lion a potion of courage. The wizard agrees to take Dorothy and Toto home in a hot air balloon. But it flew off before Dorothy and Toto.</p><p>Dorothy was informed that Glinda, the good witch of the South, might be able to help her. When they meet Glinda, she tells Dorothy that the silver shoes she wears can take her wherever she wants. She tapped her heels together three times and wished to come home.
