She bakes for the town. Her dog finds the ones it loses.

Hattie Brisco came home to Copper Gulch, Colorado, to run a failing bakery and work her bloodhound, Hank, on the county's volunteer search-and-rescue team. It was meant to be a quiet life at nine thousand feet: sourdough before dawn, cardamom buns by six, and the occasional lost hiker brought down off the mountain by a dog with a nose like a prophet.

Then a mud-season callout turns up a dead man on a gravel bar only Hank could reach — a Denver developer with a Crumb & Compass pastry bag in his pack, from a shop he never set foot in. The sheriff calls it an accident. Hattie, who knows exactly who buys that bun and when, knows better.

To clear an innocent man before the mountain buries the truth for good, she'll have to read the clues the town can't: a wiped rock, a borrowed trekking pole, and a dog that won't stop growling at a neighbor everyone loves. And every step of it circles back toward the brother she lost on these same slopes — eleven years gone, and never found.

Warm, wry, and impossible to set down, Trail of Crumbs is the first Copper Gulch Mystery: a cozy with teeth, a bakery that feeds a whole town, and a search dog who always, always comes home.
