#Shape of the City

This issue of Youth Hong Kong, Shape of the City, invites us to look at Hong Kong with fresh eyes: to imagine how the city can become more liveable, greener and more economically resilient, while preserving the memories and stories that give our communities their identity.

Inside, we speak with:CK Yip, Director of the Planning Department, the Government of HKSAR, who shares his vision for a Northern Metropolis designed for future generations.

Donald Choi, Managing Director of the Urban Renewal Authority, on balancing historical memory with modern liveability.

Alan Cheung, co-founder of One Bite Design Studio, who shows how urban planning can begin with something small but powerful.

Sampson Wong of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, who encourages us to find “new eyes” through which to see the old city we dwell in.

Wander Meijer, Executive Director of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, who explains why ecological planning must come first in development plans.

Young writers also bring their own questions and perspectives to the issue. They explore whether AI is the ultimate personalised styling tool, or a sophisticated trap that makes us feel our real bodies always need editing; what it means to keep your head up and hold on to dignity in a changing world...
