Between the Pages - Under the Sheets is a captivating story that will transport you to the bustling markets of Bali, Java, and Sumatra, through the challenging landscapes of Burma, India, and Nepal, and into the politically charged Middle East of Iran, Afghanistan, and Turkey in the 1970s as Joanna stumbles upon a suitcase full of old letters in her mothers cellar, unearthing a lifetime of secrets and exhilarating journeys in this captivating tale of love, liberation, and the extraordinary choices that shape a life.

Meet Clara Baker, Joannas mother, a spirited young woman from New Zealand, whose "Big OE" (Overseas Experience) begins with a chance encounter at Sydney Airport with the enigmatic Robert Wesley. What follows is an intrepid overland journey across continents, driven by a thirst for life and self-discovery. From the bustling markets of Bali, Java, and Sumatra, through the challenging landscapes of Burma, India, and Nepal, and into the politically charged Middle East of Iran, Afghanistan, and Turkey, Clara embraces every experience with an audacious spirit.

But woven through this epic adventure is Claras extraordinary, unconventional relationship with Robert. Despite his stable, corporate life and her nomadic existence, their connection persists across thousands of miles and years, marked by intermittent meetings, heartfelt letters, and unspoken understandings. Their bond deepens through shared moments of intimacy and vulnerability, challenging conventional notions of love and commitment, culminating in a pivotal encounter in Greece where he asks her to return home with him.

Decades later, in the unexpected isolation of a COVID-19 lockdown in New Zealand, Clara and Robert find themselves reunited, giving Joanna the chance to confront her mother about the suitcase, the letters, and the lingering question of her own identity. But what she discovers is more than she could have ever imagined, leading to an emotionally charged revelation that challenges deeply held family truths and forces everyone to confront the complex interplay of love, choice, and destiny.
